Is this a Steiner, Montessori or Reggio school?


Compass is a unique school, founded on the 'compass points' of inquiry, play, creativity and collaboration. Teachers act as coaches and children learn at their level within a multi-age setting. The intention is for the school to remain small in size to provide an environment in which the child can be known.




Who is Compass affiliated with?


Compass is an independent school governed by a Board of education specialists, including primary school teachers and researchers. Compass will welcome children of all genders, cultural backgrounds and beliefs.




Will Compass teach the Australian curriculum?


Yes. Compass is required to teach the Australian Curriculum. Compass utilises three spheres - inquiries, focused learning, and child contribution and play - through which children will explore the Australian Curriculum. Please see the Curriculum tab for more information.




How can children learn at their level?


Compass teachers work alongside children to observe and respond to their needs. They tailor instruction and encourage purposeful practice and application of learning.




What is a multi-age setting?


In its simplest form, a multi-age setting allows for children of different ages to be in the same class. However, it is so much more than this. A multi-age settings provides many benefits for children's learning and development. Children:

  • Learn at their level, according to their needs
  • Learn with and from their peers
  • Build friendships irrespective of age
  • Have opportunities to lead and mentor
  • Spend more than the traditional year with their teachers
  • Are better understood as unique learners
  • Experience greater stability
  • Experience a cooperative spirit and close-knit community
  • Have exposure to ideas, concepts, skills and strategies beyond their designated year level
  • Value learning as a journey, involving skill development, personal growth and connection with others




What year levels will Compass offer?


In 2022, Compass is looking to open a single class from Prep to Year 4. In subsequent years, Compass will extend its range to offer Prep to Year 6. The intention is for Compass to remain small in size with a multi-age setting.




What are the school fees?


Compass is a fee paying school, comparable with other independent schools. Compass aims to keep fees as accessible to families as possible and will update when practical.




How do I enrol my child?

Will there be outside school hours care (OSHC)?


Compass will explore options for outside school hours care (OSHC) dependent on the school site.
